Fitting in: DON’T

I have never felt at home anywhere, and I think that is a good thing.

Hear me out, in a world that is constantly changing, with our evolving values, to settle without them is absurd. And it's obvious for anyone progressive there is no place on the planet that he/she can call home.

There are rules everywhere. And most often those rules are made based on a downward approach to society. The one at the top tries to rule the one at the bottom. And the hierarchy is what makes societies function(!)

If we take what Max Webber said about the state being the entity with the ability to enforce legitimate violence we can say the society is something that it comes down to. If we take society as something that is a smaller version of the state.

Well, society still has some bendable rules, and state rules may or may not be enforced. And we can do a lot of things that may be deemed illegal by the state at the social level. And for the most part that is harmless like smoking pot.

However, if we go beyond society and talk about the individual who is trying to fit in. I feel the more he/she tries to fit in a society the more it will try to bend its rules on him/her.

So what does that mean? For someone who doesn't like rules, who thinks there is morality beyond rules and who wants to create a better world.

Well, I think not fitting in might be a diagnosis of a problem. If we really wanted to be who we are and have our own identity and our own sets of values and ethics, well there would be no one who could fit anywhere.
